S.R., Esq., passed the February 2018 California Bar Examination (27.3% pass rate), and tutored from abroad!

May 18, 2018 will always be one of the most memorable days of my life because, thanks to Steven, I passed the California bar!!! I was a high achiever in law school, and I did well in every single class, so when I failed the July 2017 exam, I was heartbroken and felt defeated. Building up the courage and self-confidence to study again retake an exam was tough, but Steven made it so much easier with his individualized, tailored-for-me prep program. Before Steven, I used a cookie-cutter bar prep program, and it felt like I was both alone and perpetually behind. During the course of my bar prep for the February exam, I worked BigLaw hours until about the last 2.5 weeks, got the flu, and had to leave the country for a family emergency–Steven was flexible and helped me rearrange my study schedule and calmed me down when things felt at their worst. On the first day of the February exam, I had an anxiety attack, but was able to bounce back and pass because I was able to remember all the tips that Steven had given me to prepare.

In other words, with a cookie-cutter program, I did everything right: I took two long months to study and stuck to the “plan” and I failed; whereas with Steven’s help, in a true Murphy’s Law situation, I was able to overcome illness, stress, and panic to succeed on an exam on which roughly 3/4 of test-takers were unsuccessful. Thank you Steven! — S.R., Esq., passed the February 2018 California Bar Examination

TUTOR NOTE: Flexibility was key. Skype from India in question was intermittent, so meetings were FaceTimed. Tutoring occurred on different days (Sundays 8:30 pm Alameda time = Monday morning in India). Pass, pass, pass!

Manita Rawat, Esq. – law firm partner, first-time taker

As a law firm partner who recently relocated to California, I found Steve’s program the best and most conducive for someone working full-time and for someone who has been out of law school for over ten years. His WINNIN’ TIME! book provided a concise outline of the subjects to master for the California bar exam and provided great templates that were helpful in structuring the essays in a manner that the California graders want to see. His Trigger List book, along with his essay review, enables one to consistently be able to identify issues on the essays and write passing answers. His approach to tackling the performance tests were methodological and provided a fool-proof strategy in obtaining passing scores. As a practicing attorney in another jurisdiction, I opted to take the MBE portion of the California bar exam, and Steve’s strategy provided a solid approach to handling each question in the time allotted. The California bar exam is one of the hardest bar exams in the country. However, it is passable and Steve’s approach can enable one to get there! — Manita Rawat, Esq., passed the February 2016 California Bar Examination

Miguel Zavala, Esq., passed the February 2019 California Bar Exam

First and foremost, Steven Harris is brilliant. I have so much respect and admiration for him. I could not have passed the February Bar Exam without him.

I was devastated when I found that I did not pass the July 2018 Bar Exam. I was even more devastated when I saw that I was not even close to passing. I needed around 300 points to pass the bar. I was crushed. After a couple days of reflecting I knew I had to pick myself up and figure out a plan of attack for the February 2019 Bar Exam.

I remember reaching out to people that had failed the bar and asked them what I should do. They all said to look up this guy. They swore by him. So I Googled Steven Harris, browsed his website, and emailed him right away. I sent him an email late at night and he responded within minutes. After some back and forth through email and a phone call, I had Steven Harris as my tutor.

Right away it was clear that Steven had incredible insight on every aspect of the bar. His custom calendar, weekly meetings, and approach kept me grounded and accountable. His 3 books, WINNIN’ TIME!, The Trigger List, and MBE Primers and Flowcharts were incredible and really showed his mastery over the Bar and what the graders expect. I remember always being in awe when Steven and I met. I was repeatedly having my mind blown by what Steven was teaching me.

By the time the February Bar Exam came around I was approaching the Bar in a completely different way than when I took the July Bar exam. I did everything that Steven taught me to a T. AND I PASSED! Sure I had to put in the work through out the months I was working with Steven, but his methods are invaluable.

I highly recommend Steven Harris to first time takers and repeat takers. The CA Bar Exam can be beat and Steven Harris knows the way. — Miguel Zavala, Esq., passed the February 2019 California Bar Examination

Miguel Zavala, Esq. – The Trigger List

The Trigger List helped me improve my issue-spotting skills. The first time I took the Bar I missed so many issues. I just did not know what words triggered what issues, but this book helped fix that. The second time I took the Bar I was able to spot every issue because of this book. — Miguel Zavala, Esq., passed the February 2019 California Bar Examination

Richard Varghese, Esq.

Hi Steve:

Thank you very much sir! I appreciate the help. The program was very helpful mainly because I really would go back and learn areas that I missed points on upon your review. This enabled me to understand why I was not scoring those points. I felt great on exam day, and actually thought I was passing the Bar in the middle of the MBE on day 2. I had a game day mentality, and it helped that I was scoring super high on the MBE practices I was doing. Thank you again for all the help.

Best,

I discovered Steven Harris’ Point Generator program through a posting on a bar exam forum. I did some more research and decided to work with Steven.

We started the 2-month program with an introductory session on the exam, its components, the program’s calendar and various resources for the preparation. Over the next 2 months, I immersed myself in the Point Generating mindset. It was difficult. Steven’s method is unorthodox and would shock the conscience of most law school graduates. It took me over a fortnight to appreciate the wisdom of his technique. The exam is about knowing the law but that’s only the tip of the iceberg. That is the visible part of the exam. That is what everyone is trained to do in the 3 years at law school. It’s the hidden portion that is difficult to master. It includes things like – when you see a fact pattern which issues should you write and which ones do you need to avoid, what do the graders look for in a PT answer, how much law should one write in the answers, what does analysis mean from the exam perspective and the importance of the words – “requires” and “because” in the answer. I did not know them, or at least not in a structured way. By the time the exam was 2 weeks away, I felt confident to pass and it was only because of Steven’s program. He has distilled some very unique and valuable insights on the grading criteria of the written parts of the test and has truly demonstrated his mastery in guiding students on how to meet those criteria. I am forever indebted to Steven for being my guide in this expedition. I hope that Steven will continue his mission to help many more achieve success. — Loyola Law School Alum, Esq., passed the July 2014 California Bar Examination

Ria Mae Pascual – law student transfer from Hastings to UCLA

Steven Harris taught the legal writing and research component during my 1L year at UC Hastings College of the Law. Regardless of prior academic success and experience in the legal field, the transition to law school is a skill and learned practice in itself. Professor Harris has a systematic approach to conquering the challenges of law school, which must work because several of the students from my section ranked in the top of our class. In addition to his writing and learning techniques, he is a fabulous cultivator of a comfortable academic environment. None of that stiff tension and competition (which in many ways defines law school) existed in his classroom. The combination between the classroom culture and the methodology behind converting the material into a concise, persuasive, and direct analysis helped me in succeeding during my 1L year. He was nice enough to share some of his bar prep methods with us during finals so that we could apply them to our substantive courses. His outreach truly helped students blaze through finals and complete 1L year with the confidence and competence to approach any legal research and writing assignment or writing prompt.

To add a little bit of personal context, I was searching exclusively for in-house positions for my 1L summer. One in particular required candidates to respond to an on-demand writing prompt where we read a fictional fact pattern and were asked to formulate an argument in defense of the company. Fresh out of my first semester of 1L, I thought I knew everything – but apparently I knew very little about corporate and employment law. Instead, I used Professor Harris’ writing cues and direct formats to make my argument. Applying my logical reasoning skills through his methods made this daunting assignment an easy task. This is the first and only time I’ve been faced with an on the spot prompt, but considering they called me back two hours later to re-interview and that I’m currently a paid summer associate at their company, I feel that I owe part of it to this class and the skills I acquired through Professor Harris’ teaching. — Ria Mae Pascual, UCLA 2L

Lori Ann Owens, Esq. – passed February 2017!

Professor Harris,

Thank you so much for your services. I am stunned to say that after 3 attempts I passed the February 2017 Bar Exam.

The first 2 times I took the exam I used Bar/Bri; I must say that your course and materials helped me in a much faster and efficient way. As a military spouse, mother and full-time worker I had a difficult time getting through the materials I had. And frankly, I felt like I chasing my own tail for MONTHS. Your course enabled me to live a realistic life as I prepared and this time was the first time I left the exam with even an ounce of confidence. There is no doubt in my mind that your course addressed the core of the issues I dealt with as I did just what you recommended from start to finish.

Thank you so very much for being there to help and guide me through one of my most crucial life moments. I am thankful I found you and your course and I hope others listen to my high recommendations; I will recommend you to everyone and anyone sitting for this life changing exam. — Lori Owens, Esq., passed the February 2017 California Bar Examination

P.S. I graduated from JFK Law School, a Cal accredited school. And according to Cal Bar Stats, repeat takers from CA accredited schools had a 15% pass rate… I was a part of 15%!!!

Lorena Garcia, Esq. – The Trigger List

If you are having difficulty issue spotting, The Trigger List is the book for you. The essay portion of the exam is all about issue-spotting. This was something I struggled with a lot. After writing a practice essay, I would then use The Trigger List to see which words or phrases applied to each issue. — Lorena Garcia, Esq., passed the February 2019 California Bar Examination
