Student attends legal writing class from Seoul, passes the July 2023 Cal Bar Exam!

Dear Professor Harris,

I hope you are well and enjoying the holiday season.

The approaching Thanksgiving reminds me of you. I want to express my gratitude for your outstanding teaching in the legal writing courses. Your excellent lessons contributed greatly to my success on the bar exam. The lawyer skills I gained from your teachings have helped me to handle legal matters as well as any daily life matters efficiently. I feel like I will use these skills for the rest of my life. My supervisor always loves my briefs. When you come to UC Law SF, I would love to have a coffee or meal with you. I still live near the school.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy and appreciation! — Joseph Jo, Esq., passed the July 2023 Cal Bar Exam

Contextual note: Joseph was one of my students in my Legal Research and Writing 1 class from Fall 2000. We never met in person, due to the COVID year. Joseph’s situation was complicated by the fact that he lived in South Korea, and due to political issues at the time Joseph could not get a visa to come to San Francisco to attend law school. Our class was at 5 pm on Mondays. That meant that Joseph took my class THE NEXT DAY, 17 time zones away, and 5,600 miles away. But there he was, attending every class, with a big smile on his face, ready to learn. Joseph was inspirational to me and to the rest of the class. Nobody had any right to complain about how tired they were or how much homework they had. If Joseph could do it, how couldn’t they?

Law Office/Judge’s Chambers Student Passes the July 2023 California Bar Examination!!!

I passed the July 2023 California Bar Exam using Steven’s services and materials.  Specifically, I applied the mnemonics and essay-writing strategies contained in the WINNIN’ TIME! book exactly to the Torts, Crimes, and Remedies questions presented by the examiners.  When I saw the questions, the keystrokes felt like butter!  I wholeheartedly believe that this was a major factor in obtaining a passing score because up to the exam I seriously struggled with consistently achieving passing scores on the MBEs.  I also struggled with issue spotting and time management on performance tests.  Steven’s performance test strategies and feedback helped demystify where I was falling short.  I found the Essay Review process crucial in helping identify issue triggers, coupled with The Trigger List book. The memorization program was not fun at all but got the issue “outlines” into my brain so I was quickly able to access the list of potential issue I would have missed otherwise on the Business Associations and Professional Responsibility Bar essays.  Steven’s communication style is straightforward and blunt; it may not always feel good in the moment but it’s what’s needed to pass the test (at least for me).  As a final note, I did not attend law school – I “read” for the bar, aka self-study/on the job study.  So, Steven’s program was my only “formal” training and also the first time I encountered many of the subjects and issues tested.  Highly recommend. — Law office/judge’s chambers student, Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination

Cal Western alumna passes the July 2023 California Bar Examination!

To anyone doubting signing up for this program, just do it!  I found Steven’s program about two weeks into the program my law school endorses.  After the first week, I knew that the other program was not for me.  The program works for so many, it just was not a fit for me and I listened to my gut.  If you have any doubts, listen to them!  I did well in law school, but I felt I was not getting the feedback I needed and was not getting it fast enough.  Steven’s program was perfect for me in numerous ways.  Following his calendar, I rarely had any nights where I finished the day thinking I cannot do this again tomorrow (there is too much to do/it was too heavy), or that I was constantly playing catch up.  The condensed review videos are gold.  They are the reason why I was able to get the other work done and not feel like I was 75% of my day listening rather than applying.  Steven’s essay plan is the reason I passed the bar, I just know it.  The amount of writing and feedback, quick feedback, allowed me to get to a place where I felt confident when essay was finally here.  After essay day, I honestly felt off because I felt like I kicked butt.  After some reflection, I knew I felt good because of all the practice we did.  The weekly meetings allow you to touch base with a real person who is tracking your progress and giving you that extra push to get you through bar prep.  His memorization method, I have no words for.  Literally perfection!  I doubted what I would retain and the need to start memorizing when he said, but you just have to trust his process.  Essay day, I was able to access what I memorized, due to his techniques, and get it down.  Steven’s PT method gets you to where you need to be and quick. I ended up liking the PT practice because of the tips and tricks he gave me.   There is a lot more I can say, but the gist is if you have any doubts on where you are with your bar prep or maybe you do not and just want to make sure you do whatever you can do pass the bar, then sign up.  Thanks Steven, you helped me be a first-time bar passer! — Vanessa Feierabend, Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination.

5-star Bar Tutorial Program! Military Vet passes the Cal Bar Exam!

After failing the bar exam, I knew I needed a study program that provided one-on-one assistance. I was licensed in another state almost twenty years ago, but needed to pass the California Bar exam to keep my new job. Steven’s tutorial program was exactly what I needed! Steven tailored my bar study around my very busy work schedule. He provided me regular feedback by email and a weekly meeting. The feedback was essential to ensure I did not make the same mistakes I made when I failed the exam. His program is structured and demanding, while simple to absorb. Steven’s sense of humor is engaging and enjoyable. I highly recommend Steven’s Tutorial Program for an older attorney who needs a more personalized study strategy to pass the California Bar exam. — Senior Army Officer, Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination.

Katherine B., Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination

I highly recommend Steven’s CA bar exam review course. I had to take two years off between law school and actually taking the bar exam due to personal circumstances. Needless to say, I was worried about taking the bar after being out of school for so long. Nonetheless, Steven talked me through my concerns and assured me that it was doable. Steven’s approach was significantly different from other programs that I had previewed. Steven has compiled all different types of essays for each subject so that you will be exposed to all of the different ways that they will test the subjects on the essays. I found Steven’s essay review exercises EXTREMELY helpful as it taught me how to drill down and spot exactly what the graders are looking for. And while Steven will warn you that he is in fact not Ms. Cleo, his predictions for the bar exam that I took were 100% spot on. That’s because Steven knows this test inside out. No one studies the bar exam the way he does and he breaks down his program into sections that make the exam easier to digest. All of the different exercises in his program work together to help you build up your understanding of all of the components of the bar.

For anyone who looks at Steven’s books and/or outlines and thinks, “This is not enough, where are those fat bar prep books I always see?” trust me when I say that Steven has boiled it down to what you actually need to know to pass. There are so many subjects that you need to know for the CA bar exam, and you can’t learn every single thing about every single subject. Steven has studied the Bar and knows what subtopics from each subject you should focus on. Not only does this help you focus on the truly important topics for each subject, it also helps ease the anxiety of “I have to know all of this?” Passing the CA bar is no easy feat, but if I can do it after taking a 2 year hiatus, you can too. And Steven’s program will help make that a reality. – Katherine B., Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination

The Cal Bar had no chance – July 2023 passer!

As a first time bar taker, I was extremely nervous about the exam. It is the test of all tests. However, during the lunch period of day one, I knew that the process worked. I knew that Steven’s method worked because I felt accomplished and as if I passed before I even saw Essays 4, 5 and the Performance Test. Steven is THE no-nonsense bar tutor that you need in order to pass. Like a coach training you for the big game, you peak at the perfect time. He will show your strengths and weaknesses and talks you through them during the weekly meetings. The consistent essay feedback allows you to know where your writing skills need to improve and where you are missing the substance. Steven’s program is not designed to simply pass the bar, it is to exploit it so you feel confident when taking it.

Steven,

Above is my endorsement for you and your program. Raw, unedited, unfiltered. I want to thank you again because I truthfully have never felt so confident that I was passing a test when I only completed a quarter of the entire exam. I was hesitant and nervous at first because the track that we were on is not like any other program, but once I committed I knew it was going to work. I cannot thank you enough for helping me pass and fulfill my dream. You sir deserve a drink. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family. – Joey Mendoza, Esq., passed the July 2023 Cal Bar Examination

First timer overcomes obstacles to pass July 2023 Cal Bar Exam!

Working with Steven was a Godsend. Thanks to Steven I passed the July 2023 California Bar exam on the first try and with a learning disability. My story is unique because I was working with a different tutor who was a complete disaster before I found Steven. From the beginning, I knew that I would need individualized help that a traditional commercial bar prep course could not offer. It is no secret that the California Bar exam is the hardest exam with such a low pass rate and I figured if everyone is using commercial bar prep programs then I needed to try something different for a better chance at passing.

My original tutor talked a good game but there was no real plan. Nothing was customized to my learning style. They were not always available for questions or feedback. I knew if I continued on that path I would not pass the bar. The difference between my first tutor and Steven is night and day.

Steven is an angel on earth. I sincerely mean that. Not only does he have a real plan and one that works, but he truly cares. Steven made a customized plan and calendar for me. I always knew exactly what I needed to do that day, there was no confusion. Steven listened to my concerns and he understood my learning disability. He made a plan that I could follow and complete in a timely fashion each day. Steven saw my old plan with my last tutor and knew that was unmanageable for someone with my learning disability. Steven had physical books for everything. It was so nice to have one resource instead of searching online, or through emails. He organized scheduled calls and we even zoomed which was nice to have face-to-face contact. Steven cared. After one day of the program, he called to check in on how it went and how I was feeling. It meant the world, especially after the ordeal I had gone through with my previous tutor.

One of the best parts about Steven’s plan is his memorization plan. He has a whole plan and book to memorize for the exam. Hallelujah!!!! He has organized it by subject and the definitions of the concepts are only as long or as short as they need to be. Steven even had me start the memorization part early because of my learning disability to space it out more. Steven has his plan but he really customizes it to you where you need it. Toward the end of bar prep, I was so anxious and little things were breaking my confidence. A huge one was my scores on the MBE questions. If I got below 70% I would start spiraling. Steven advised that I continue practicing but to stop looking at the scores. He said if the score is gonna get you in your head then don’t keep score. GENIUS!

When it came to essays Steven would have me do my essays open book with the WINNIN’ TIME! book of outlines open, he said you don’t know or have all the material memorized so why would you do it closed book now? GENIUS! Once again! By practicing the essays open book and timed I could focus on HOW to write an essay answer and hone my writing style. It was like I was looking for guidance and Steven gave me a religion. He gave me tools on how to write my answers no matter the subject and provided the phrases and transition words I needed so badly. It sounds so simple but trust me it is so easy to get lost in an answer without the right format and transition words. Steven helped me to get my answers to be sharp and that way the grader would never search for my answer because it was clear as day.

Prior to the exam, during the Essay Review period, he had me spend days reviewing specific, hand-chosen CA Bar exam selected answers and find the word or phrase that implicated each issue. This was HUGE for my success. I saw which topics the bar exam loved to test on and then could identify the key points that they were looking for in responses. He had hand-picked essays and selected answers in his Calweasel Essay Books to read as opposed to me searching for them on the CA bar exam site. It was perfect, I would use this again during the memorization period when I was memorizing an input and wondering how it would look in an essay or how they would ask a question on it.

Another amazing part of Steven’s program is how he approaches the performance test. He makes it so much easier than any other program I have seen. Steven made it simple and made sure I knew what was unnecessary and could be skipped.

Steven has videos of each topic on his website and I added those to my schedule when I had time. This helped me to have a deeper understanding of the concepts. I was able to learn everything I needed on specific subjects without taking a whole course.

Steven has all the tools and resources you need. All resources have been created by him and are not just another supplement you can buy and add to your resources. It shows how much he knows and is invested in your success.

Steven knows the California bar exam. He knows trends, how it’s tested, how to study, and what works. All of Steven’s predictions for the exam were spot on! It really does not matter your background, difficulties problem areas, or anxieties because Steven will get you where you need to be. I put him on a pedestal because he deserves to be on one. Without him, I would not have passed the CA bar exam on the first try. I had so much anxiety about this exam. I was so scared to fail the exam and have to take it again. Steven worked with me and helped with my anxiety and never dismissed my fears. Of course, I was nervous for the exam but I went in with so much confidence despite all of my anxiety because I knew Steven gave me all the tools and support I needed. I can never thank Steven enough for everything he did for me for this exam. I recommend him to everyone and anyone because I believe he can work with anyone. Steven cares and truly works with you. He carves out the time to meet with you and always gets you your essay feedback on time. His feedback is critical and helpful. Even in parts where you did a good job, he will provide suggestions of how he would write something. He doesn’t just tell you no good or good, he actually provides feedback to help you do better in the future. Steven’s books even include what to look for in a tutor if you do not go with him, one of them being to ask to see a sample of a tutor’s feedback for essays. Had I known about this tip I would never have hired my last tutor.

If you are in doubt about hiring Steven take it from someone who had a different tutor and went through numerous interviews to find a tutor, Steven is it!! He is the real deal. Steven’s books are pure gold. I wish I had them during law school for my finals. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and helped me to believe in myself for this exam. This is a tough exam especially mentally it is crucial to get the right guidance and support and that is Steven Harris! — USD Law Alum, Esq., passed the July 2023 California Bar Examination
